What to Eat: Amsterdam Edition

Amsterdam is one of the cities I’ve found with the most snack shoppes around. There’s everything from sweet to savory, and unfortunately I wasn’t able to capture everything we ate on this trip, so here are some of my favorite food related places to visit:

De Vier Pilaren

This Dutch Cafe has the most delicious mini pancakes also known as Poffertjes (Dutch Pancakes). De Vier Pilaren is a small restaurant by one of Amsterdam’s many canals that has a very romantic view. I would suggest going here for breakfast, although a mid-afternoon snack or dessert time work just as well.

Het Kleinste Huis (Smallest House in Amsterdam)

The Smallest House in Amsterdam is a very cute house, located in one of the oldest streets of central Amsterdam and around the corner of the Red Light district, it is a miniature version of the typical Amsterdam canal-side houses. Known as The Smallest House, it is also a tea shop or cafe, where you can find coffee, tea and delicious bites in their upstair tea room. The gentlemen that owns the place is extremely sweet and will help you choose the best tea to your taste.

De Molenwiek

De Molenwiek is a Dutch restaurant in the middle of a busy restaurant street, Korte Leidsedwarsstraat. Went here with friends on a Thursday night for some dishes of great Dutch food at reasonable prices. Recommend the meatballs and the croquettes.

Manneken Pis (Fries)

Walking around the city center you’ll find hundreds of places for snacks. One of the best fries I’ve ever had come from Manneken Pis Fries. So do yourself a favor and get a small (yes, small is actually huge) cone of these fries with their many sauces (I tried the mayo pesto one) and enjoy it!

Alberto’s la Forge

If you’re looking a good lunch menu that is reasonably priced and with delicious meals then you’ve found it at Alberto’s la Forge. This hidden gem is DELICIOUS and the service is just outstanding. The image below is of a red bell pepper filled with steak and rice in an incredible sauce. Must try!
